Tips for Surviving pregnancy with littles

January 8, 2019

Perspective: a particular attitude toward or way of regarding something; a point of view.

It’s amazing how as you walk along the journey of life, perspective changes as you are faced with different circumstances, grow older ((and wiser LOL)).

My pregnancy is finally coming to a close, and its amazing how my viewpoint of pregnancy has changed with each child. Some of thats due to experience, some of it maturity and age. And some of it is just down to rolling with the punches and taking things in stride even if you have no idea how you’re going to cope.

First pregnancies

I definitely didn’t think pregnancy was hard with my first from a physical standpoint-I felt good, slept pretty well, etc. , but looking back there are so many things I would have changed about my mindset.

There’s something so special (and EASY LOL) about your first and I was so devastated about missing a year in my professional soccer career that it consumed me. I can’t blame myself, but its always a thought on my mind how I never soaked up the pregnancy. I find with the second and consecutive pregnancies you have no TIME to enjoy it because you’re so frickin busy!

Pregnancies with multiple kids

Anyway, fast forward to my second and having a toddler to run around after while being pregnant made pregnancy sooo much harder. From getting more sleep/rest, having time to get things done, to fitting workouts in it was for sure a challenge. But I thjnk with everything we are faced with, you somehow get it done.

When we found out we were having a third, I knew it was going to be extremely challenging with a toddler and preschooler. But, as I close in on 38 weeks, somehow I made it through in one piece!!

I wanted to share my thoughts and some tips for those of you embarking on the pregnancy journey with 2 ((really really)) young kids and some things that helped me get through the pregnancy. Now the postpartum period? haha. We’ll see how I survive that…wish me luck. haha :P

Tips for survival!

  1. Take advantage of bursts of energy/days you feel good! This one is huge! When I’ feeling physically good, I tackle bigger projects/chores etc. so on the days I’m more tired or feeling super heavy I can do some lower key things.

  2. At night wait to sit down: This one was huge for me. I always felt like a hot mess in the morning if after the kids went to bed that I just sat on the couch. Taking 15-20 mins, no matter how tired I was, at organizing things made mornings SO much smoother. Especially since I wasn’t really being productive on the couch anyway! Straightening up, and setting things up for the next morning really made my life SO so much easier in the long run. It also allowed me the option of sleeping a little later in the morning knowing things were set up downstairs. Once I sit down at night I feel like I can’t get up and then the morning is chaotic. because I’m playing catch up!

  3. Have your older sibling help as much as possible: my oldest is 4 1/2, so I try to get him to help me as much as possible. I think this is probably even easier with a girl, but my little man has done a decent job. Helping his brother take shoes, coat, etc off, hanging things up, grabbing something for me upstairs, filling up sippy cups for him and his brother full of water, fixing a toy for his little brother has been really important because it limits putting me in awkward positions with the bump. Also, when baby comes my youngest will be used to his brother helping so it won’t be a big deal if I’m busy with baby.

  4. Making them independent: Piggy backing off the above- I have tried super hard to make them as independent as possible over the last few months. Not only for me physically right now, but trying to set the stage for arrival of baby 3. Max is a really early riser (like 6 am) SO…we’ve trained him when he wakes up, he dresses himself and comes downstairs on his own and plays (even though 90% of the time I am already up right now…I might not be in a couple weeks haha). He can obviously dress himself with coats, hats, shoes, jackets, and Getting his own school bag ready, buckling his own car seat are all examples, I’ve tried to work hard with getting Seb to get undressed on his own with shoes, coat, etc. but that process is a little slower because he has just turned 2.

  5. Enlist help: This one is obviously a given. I have someone come to the house for when I’m at work but its pretty much for when I’m at the office. If you have friends or family offering to take your kids or even ONE (because one is one and two is twenty amirite??!!) just take them up on it. I definitely need to be better asking for help at times but this pregnancy I asked some family and friends every now and again to help, especially when the kids were sick.

I am lucky because both boys nap at the same time, so if I wanted to nap when I’m home and not at work I can ( probably have taken 3 naps this whole pregnancy LOL, I’m not really a napper) but if your oldest doesn’t nap anymore, and you need a rest, get yo self some HELP!!! YOU DONT GET A MEDAL FOR DOING IT ALL ON YOUR OWN. end of story.

  6. Get amazon prime: LOL. This is kind of a joke, but not really. Especially because I work, I do a lot of shopping online. It allows me more time with either my kids, resting, or doing things I want to be doing and not stressing with traffic, lines in the store, and maybe moving around when I’m not feeling great. Also see: LUGGING TWO KIDS to the store.

  7. Pick and choose your errand time: This is piggybacking off the above- I try to avoid bringing them to any store with me especially if I’m not feeling great. Some days I have no choice (grocery day) but if I have to run to target, I might wait a few days until I know when they’re both in school or my husband will be home. I’m more focused and efficient when I’m on my own for sure. With that being said, I’ve made my fair share of trips with both boys (way too many!!!) and sometimes you just get it done!!

  8. Lower your expectations: Your kids are kids. they don’t care if they have an activity every day, Ignore pinterest and anything that makes you feel like you’re not doing enough!! Kids actually love routine. Embrace that and don’t try and reinvent the wheel and kill yourself with activities and trips making your day super busy!! Both of my boys are pretty content outside or playing with their toys in all honesty so don’t kill yourself trying to cram things in. THEY DON’T CARE!! As long as they are with YOU thats all they care about. That being said, know when to get out of the house- sometimes its necessary…like when all they are doing is fighting lol.

  9. Find me time: I know self-care is a HUGE hype word right now but for me, setting aside 15 mins for a bath, or putting my makeup on in the morning is what I NEED to feel good about myself and happy. Carve out a few minutes here and there for things that you want to do whether its work out, pamper yourself, read, whatever…

  10. Lastly, just remember that as long as they are healthy and loved, you’re doing a great job. That means its ok if they have PBJ two days in a row, or watch too much TV one day because you’re tired. You’re growing a human. Thats hard AF.

Have a great day loves xo

Peanut Butter Blondie's Maternity Favorites!

December 15, 2018

34 weeks with baby 3! Happy Saturday everyone!

This post has been on the back of my mind for weeks now and I wanted to get it out this week! I had another post planned as well (holiday dress wear) for those of you still looking for your Christmas outfits but I’ll try to get that one up by early next week.

fullsizeoutput_2c3f.jpeg

Things have been crazy with my boys being sick, especially my youngest with an ear infection. I’m a little behind on here, and I’ve got boat loads of wrapping to do! Yikes! I think we are on the mend finally, once we got some meds he has been feeling sooo much better thank god! There is nothing worse than sick little babies :(

Anyway, obviously I have been pregnant three times so I have had a lot of time for trial and error on maternity fashion and what feels and looks good. I also love to look good, but also be comfortable! Especially because with my last 2 pregnancies I have been running after other kids , and even my first I was doing a ton of coaching through the whole pregnancy!

There have been so many things that I have either ordered and hated, or wore a couple times, and realized after wear that it didn’t work (ie. fell down, too much pressure on stomach, stretched out, etc.) and I don’t want you all to make the same mistake!!

SO. I have made a huge list of all my maternity faves. I have tried to mix winter and summer stuff in here but that is hard because its the dead of winter! LOL. Also…a lot of this stuff is neutrals…so sorry if it is boring colors lol…I build around it with accessories, oversized sweaters, tunics, cardigans, etc because you’re only pregnant for so long so you don’t want to completely buy a ton! ALSO…these can be GREAT gifts if you have a loved one who is newly pregnant!! Trust me, giving the Zella Leggings is like the GOLDEN ticket for a pregnant mama!!

I also plan on doing a blog post on some of my favorite transitional pieces which are great for first trimester (and even second if you are carrying small or a first time mom). These pieces generally are also perfect for that transitional postpartum period when you’re not back to your normal size but want to feel good and wear regular (not maternity) clothing!! These are all clothes I would wear even if I wasn’t pregnant and most were already in my closet anyway!

I plan on doing a post potentially next week or over Christmas on my favorite workout gear while pregnant so I will have a few more options on different items then! I hope this helps you pregnant mamas….!!xo

……Talking My Favorites…..

  1. My number 1 on the list has to be the Maternity Zella Leggings. I wear these basically every day. Amazing quality, can be dressed up or down, they are the BEST. Hands down, the number one item I can’t live without. These fit TTS, select your pre-pregnancy size.

  2. Second thing I wear the most is the Pure Body Tees/Long sleeve tees. I wear these under sweaters, coats, to run in, perfect for layering. They are cotton, super comfy and cheap when you get them on sale. Must have. (Gap always has 30-50% off sales!)

  3. Same as above but long sleeve option!

  4. Finding jeans can be tough. I’ve found that I like the old navy rockstar ones the best. I’ve honestly tried every designer brand and I like these the best! Like Gap, they have good sales so get them on sale (I believe right now these are on sale too!) These don’t fall down too much, are comfy and look good. Note that the dark wash of these run a little smaller. I got the second smallest size for reference.

  5. Spanx faux leather leggings maternity! f-these are great to head out to dinner or dress up your every day outfit. I did find they slipped a little but I think I needed to size down to the XS. They look amazing though and are definitely comfortable and you can move in them.

  6. I love these fleeces They are great to and from the gym or even just at home. I used them also to run in. Run TTS.

  7. Love me some overalls! TTS and super cute…as seen in my photo!!

  8. Distressed overalls…comfy and so cute! Can transition from winter to spring, can be worn in summer or fall and a warmer winter day!!

  9. I didn’t love the blue wash of the madewell maternity jeans, but I loved the black ones. I lived in them in Paris. Great color, super comfy. TTS to madewell brand (which usually runs a little big)

  10. This is a great non maternity dress that you can wear through all stages of pregnancy and AFTER. Its a flattering fit. Not pregnant I usually size up to a S, and when pregnant M. Its on sale right now as well and comes in tons of colors! Here is the tank version!

  11. My favorite maternity workout tank

  12. Cutest suit

  13. This vest is great for layering during fall/winter/spring! I have this in black.

  14. Cozy sweater and great fit and price ! Comes in tons of colors.

  15. Cutest tee!

  16. Joggers are my Go-to. These always sell out!

  17. This is for sure my favorite sports bra to wear when I’m pregnant for high impact activities- running, etc. It keeps your girls in place and it also has straps for nursing so when you have the baby you can wear this as well. It is definitely harder to get on but for me its totally worth it because my chest size increases like 3 times when pregnant and nursing so I need the tight support!

  18. My winter jacket-

Congrats and let me know if you have any questions about anything!

Pregnancy workouts & The Ten Minute Rule

September 14, 2018

Hi everyone! Hope you all had a great week!

We’ve officially been back a week from Hawaii and we are all finally adjusted back to the Eastern time zone…that took awhile esp. for my youngest. I def learned a lot traveling with the kids for such a long way and will share that in a separate post! The good thing is they have both been sleeping in between 7-8 am every day since we got back (even later the first few days) and I have been loving that as it gives me some extra time in the mornings to myself to run, and get ready for the day, or check my emails and have some quiet time.

Its been a minute since I shared my workouts with y’all so I thought I’d hop on this week (( before I did a hawaii recap)) and share my workouts over the last 5-6 weeks as well as some tips I have for motivating and keeping yourself moving throughout the second trimester!

I’m officially 21 1/2 weeks so I’m definitely starting to feel ((and look)) a lot bigger. Its definitely hard looking in the mirror sometimes after being so lean and fit, but trying to enjoy the process & embrace the extra curves!! I still have felt pretty good when working out most of the time which is a lifesaver for me mentally.

1BCDF3FB-7935-473A-B9AA-334BDD74EEE9.jpg

Tips for 2nd trimester workouts

  1. Change your mentality: This is a big one for me- I still struggle with it. My main goal is not to challenge myself and “get better everyday”, but to move, sweat, feel good and stay active. I have to remind myself of this when I’m running and I’m moving slower, and when I’m lifting and I get out of breath quickly, or I’m not able to lift as heavy of weight. This allows me to keep things in perspective and not get down on myself!

  2. Find workout clothes that are comfortable: This might sound silly, but look good, feel good, play good..haha. But seriously, I always have an extra pep in my step when I have a killer new workout outfit to wear in the gym and finding clothes that FIT and make you feel comfortable (and looking good is a bonus) with your extra weight is really important. Its actually mind boggling to me that the top brands (ie nike, adidias, etc.) don’t have a maternity workout line!! With my first pregnancy I was able to wear a lot of my pre- pregnancy leggings and then when I got bigger just wear them lower. I find now that my bump is A LOT bigger with my 3rd and I don’t want to ruin or stretch out my nice leggings so I’ve stored them away. I’ve either sized up when I’ve seen my faves on sale, or bought maternity activewear. My fave maternity workout gear so far are Gap and Isabel Maternity by Ingrid and Isabel. They have some super cute leggings and they are comfortable, and wick sweat! I’m definitely still searching around for more brands so I’ll be doing a post on my favorite 2nd trimester Preggo clothes along with activewear!

  3. Any movement counts: There are some days where I might have the day off, but I’m really active with the kids and walk a lot. Walking counts! So even if you’re not a runner, a 30 min walk everyday is going to help you in the long run down the line!!

  4. Find your motivator: My #1 motivation is feeling good and time for myself, and knowing that staying active keeps my baby healthy. Thats what keeps me going day in and day out. Also on the back of my mind is keeping a few extra pounds off, and remembering how LONG the road back to fitness/pre-baby body is and how much easier it is to be active throughout and only take off 6-8 weeks vs 6-8 months!

  5. Give yourself grace: Remember some days your body isn’t feeling it…go for a slow walk or just rest! Give yourself grace…you’re growing a human!

  6. Every day will be different: As you can see below, sometimes I can run 8:30 miles and feel like a million dollars…and some days I feel sluggish and slow. It. doesn’t. matter!! You’re out there! Every day will be different. It’s like a rollercoaster dealing with your body during pregnancy. I’m just grateful to still be moving and take it as it comes! Don’t get too down on the crappy days, or too high on the days you feel great!

Last but not least…the 10 minute rule. My fave tip. This one is GREAT if you’re just starting to workout (pregnant or not!!), or are super tired!!

  7. The ten minute rule: I use this sometimes. I tell myself to walk/run for 10 minutes, and if I’m still not feeling it, to go home. 99% of the time I keep going! Once you start moving the positive energy and endorphins will keep you going! Trust me.

18 Weeks & Friday Fashion

August 24, 2018

Friday is here! Fridays are a special time in the summer for us because with our businesses for about 8 months of the year we are pretty busy with work for at least 1, if not 2 of the days on the weekend so I'm savoring the slow weekend summer weekends while I can!

#THATPACKINGLIFE

We have our big family vacation next week so I'll be busy packing and gathering things for our super long flight (+10 hours..yyiiiikkkesss) I do feel like no matter how early I start packing I am always up late the night before ha.

We've dealt with my oldest getting the stomach bug and a fever this week so I'm so happy that he's getting over that before we leave ((and praying his little bro doesn't get it!!)) I feel like sicknesses always seem to go around right before big trips!! Does this happen to anyone else? Lol. Also...mother nature has thrown us a curve ball with this massive hurricane hitting Hawaii. Hopefully all is well and Hawaii doesn't get hit as bad as what they say might happen.

Regardless..the Preperation MUST go on. I will definitely be sharing some of the items that I'm bringing along, as well as items to stay organized AND what I'm bringing for the boys to stay occupied for 10+ hours!

Preggo Transitional Clothing

I've reached that point in pregnancy where I've pretty much outgrown ALL of  pre-pregnancy clothing, but maternity clothing is kind of big. This clearly hit faster than baby 2, and WAY faster than baby 1. lol.

To be honest, I don't really love maternity clothing (actually who does lol?!!). I try to stick to the basics when purchasing maternity clothing: plain cotton tees (LS, Short sleeve, and tanks) that can go with anything, and leggings, and jeans. I try to fill in the rest of my wardrobe with some of my looser clothing that I can still wear when I'm not pregnant (when nursing and beyond). The last two pregnancies it was pretty warm at the last stages of the pregnancy so my wardrobe will be a bit different this time around. I def feel like once Nov/Dec/Jan hits I'm going to be wearing a lot of my maternity jeans, leggings and LS maternity tops with my cardigans. I stocked up on those during the Nordstrom Sale.

I wanted to share some of my fave transitional pieces that you can wear pre, during, post pregnancy. There's nothing worse than shelling out a ton of money for maternity clothes you're only going to wear for a few months. I know for a fact I feel better about myself when I look good, so having some nice transitional pieces that firstly, save money..and aren't frumpy or scream "pregnancy" are super important! Here are some that have been repeat outfit offenders the last month or so!!

Image 8-24-18 at 1.57 PM.jpg

1. Free People Aster Henley Tee- This tee comes in a bunch of colors, is on sale, and is a shirt you can wear before and after pregnancy as well. You can front tuck or tie in the front, or if its late stage in pregnancy...wear it just out!

As seen here, not pregnant and had a knot tied layered with a cardi!

As seen here, not pregnant and had a knot tied layered with a cardi!

2. THESE JEANS. Wit and Wisdom Absolution. These are a must for anyone who thinks jeans are uncomfortable (read: 90% of the population ha). I ordered these in my regular size and they fit up until now due to the AMAZING elastic band on waist. I've also ordered a pair and sized up so they can fit my whole pregnancy. I'm so excited because these are a pair of jeans that I can honestly say I will wear pre pregnancy, during, and especially postpartum ((y'all feel me on that...lol) The price is also great, and nordys has free shipping and returns! So stretchy and the waistband is GOALS.

3. Leith Ruched Body Con Dress- The dress I was wearing in my post- Honestly I've shown the black color and worn a different color in my photo but this dress is a non-maternity dress and it is so flattering whether you are pregnant or not! I got my regular size, and ordered a size up for the Long Sleeve option when I'll be wearing it in the 3rd trimester. Price is good, and quality is awesome!

4. This "Priscilla" Free People Dress- flowy, boho and cute. The only fail on this is I'm a boy mom and I bought the white. ha.

6CBDA876-35E7-4DE9-9B03-5CB682AB5400.jpg

5. This "Greatest Day" smock dress from Free People that I wore for my pregnancy announcement. I LOVE this dress, the pink is great for summer/spring and the red is awesome paired with a cardi and booties for fall! Super comfy and doesn't scream maternity. Its on sale too!

IMG_4241.JPG

6. These belted shorts from Shein. I LOVE these! I got so many compliments on them and I can't wait to wear them when I'm not pregnant ha. I love pulling them up over the bump right now and will be great postpartum...and when I've finally lost the baby weight. The price is also great and honestly I've been impressed with the quality..I bought several pairs ha.

Shein Belted shorts..I think I was around 15 or 16 weeks here?

Shein Belted shorts..I think I was around 15 or 16 weeks here?

7. These Lush tunics are one of the best basics I have. The fit is perfect if you're expecting and comfortable if you're not! They come in a ton of colors, are great for layering or even just wearing on their own out, to work, or to a an event! You can tie them up for a more casual look or front tuck if you're not pregnant. Also they are currently on sale YESSS!

8. I love these Free People January tees. Super cute no matter what phase you're in and preggo friendly. Awesome on its own, tons of color options and also great for layering!

9. Do you see a trend..free people, free people, free people ha! These have been my fave tees over the summer. Def a bit lower cut on the sides so wearing a bralette is prob a good idea..but they are cute with the flutter sleeve and nice and long for pregnancy/or if you are wearing over leggings. Also can be tied if not pregnant! Great staple and awesome price! I have these in a few colors.

Hope you all enjoy and this helps any of you on your fashion journey whatever stage you are in!

Family friendly Breakfast & 16 Weeks Bumpdate

August 10, 2018

Happy Friday! I'm rocking in today at 4 months pregnant...I can't believe it! Hope you all have some fun plans for this summer weekend :)

Guilt free Family friendly Breakfast:

I wanted to share with all of you an awesome breakfast that is great for the whole family! I know that sometimes it is such a struggle to make only ONE meal for the whole family..especially when you are trying to eat healthy ((hello fellow moms of picky eaters!)).

Image 8-10-18 at 1.29 PM.jpg

Introducing...Kodiak Cake Buttermilk Pancakes. The macros (Protein, fat, carbs) on these bad boys are AWESOME, and they taste great. Our boys love them and we usually top them with syrup or honey for the kids. Right now ((because I'm a little bit of IDGAF about nutrition sometimes ha)) I usually top mine with syrup too haha #pregnancyprobs. A healthier more clean option would be to top with either Walden farms sugar free syrup ( I haven't tried, I've seen a lot of people use though) or a nut butter- Peanut butter, almond butter, etc.

These are literally IDIOT proof to cook (I am a decent cook but for some reason pancakes aren't on the top of my list of great meals I can cook), and you can play up the protein content with adding milk and egg. YES- that means the mixture needs NOTHING else. So, those days that you have nothing left in the house (read: no eggs), you can still make these suckers.

9fjCWWl4QyGVzFpJiacKoQ.jpg

I get mine at Wegmans but I'm sure you can snag them online.

BumpDate:

16 weeks pregnant! Boom! Another month and we will be halfway there. I've had a killer week of workouts and can't wait to have a day off tomorrow and rest my body! Weight gain is staying steady at 9 pounds. I have my anatomy scan scheduled in a few weeks before we go out of town, so fingers crossed everything is okay. I've started to stock up on maternity basics (short sleeve and long sleeve tees, leggings, etc.) for the upcoming months. By mid September I think I'll be hard pressed to find too much of my closet that fits properly! Ha! I'll be doing a post on my maternity must haves and brands I love for fit, comfort, and quality so keep an eye out for that!

4 Tips to Survive the 1st Trimester and Stay Active!

August 3, 2018

Hey hey everyone..

Happy August! I feel like stores every year push the "back to school" thing earlier and earlier and this year is no exception!! I'm super excited for August, another month of outdoor time with the family, and we have a vacation planned at the end of the month in Hawaii with all of my in-laws. We are SO so excited to really "getaway" and meet up with everyone. Anyone who has family that lives overseas knows the struggle and we are so looking forward to spending some time together in such a beautiful place! And yes, the boys are coming with us so I will be sure to keep you posted on how that travel goes Ha #RIPtous on that long flight.

As I mentioned in my last post, the first trimester is finally over with and I've had a great first couple weeks of the second trimester! I've managed to stay active, and have more energy for sure! Unfortunately I have come down with a cold the last week so that's been a bit of a buzz kill. I swear that I can't have a pregnancy without getting sick at least once lol. The. WORST.

Other than the breaking news that we are having another BOY (LOL!!), all my scans have come back great so far (which is amazing considering last pregnancy..what an emotional rollercoaster!) which is more important than anything else.

Bumpdate

I won't bore you guys with the weekly "bumpdate" questions that sometimes you see, but I will give you the basics. I'm definitely closing in on maternity clothes (I'll be sharing my faves with all of you). Right now I can still fit into some of my "looser" clothes and shorts/pants that I bought during my "nursing and still losing weight phase" lol. Weight wise I've gained the same as the last two- I'm right around 10 or 11 lbs. I know to some people that might seem like a lot for 15 weeks but thats just how my body rolls! Cravings wise I always crave bad foods regardless of pregnancy haha. But some things I have been randomly loving more than usual are chicken sausage for breakfast, omelettes with tomatoes and cheese, parmesan cheese on pasta (I've definitely had more pasta than I normally do!), and I want cereal in the WORST way guys. I've only allowed myself to buy it once or twice because honestly I finish the whole dang box in about 2 days so...yeah those carbs are going straight to my thighs, not my baby!!

Pregnant and working out

When I first got pregnant with my first I was so curious as to how other people felt working out: did they feel good? uncomfortable? Did their times/weights drop? Were they out out breath? I was coming off being a pro athlete and everything in my life was based around my workouts up until that point. Clearly...that all changed getting pregnant ha but I still wanted to stay active because it was such a big part of my life.

Basically, I wanted to know: Did they feel as bad as I did? Because I felt like total shit sometimes. Granted, that wasn't every day, but the bad days were tough.

All of this was unchartered waters for me, so It was so reassuring to me to read articles where Olympians were being interviewed that they struggled at times with their mileage, times, and some didn't even run through their whole pregnancy. They had good days, and bad days...but staying active was so worth it was the overlying message!

I'll be sharing my workouts throughout my pregnancy (and hopefully some video as I continue on throughout the pregnancy) for those that are interested/curious and hopefully this helps someone who could be struggling with their workouts while pregnant! Remember, one day at a time and listen to your body!

A lot of people are amazed at times how active I'm able to stay during pregnancy, and the first trimester is no exception! So many hormones and the fatigue is so fricking real.

I wanted to share some tips that helped me through my 3 pregnancies first trimesters in staying active!

4 tips to staying active and surviving!

1. Go to bed early: I would have to say this is my number 1 tip. Honestly, DVR the TV shows and catch them another time. Your body will thank you for it. I am always so tired by the end of the day and going to bed early always helped me be super productive a majority of the following day! I also have 2 boys that are early risers (like, 6 am wake up) so I *have* to bed in bed early!

2. Drink tons of water: I know this might seem super obvious, but a lot of times when I felt slightly nauseous or sick, water , fresh air and a little movement always helped me. Being on the go makes it hard to hydrate sometimes so remind yourself! Make sure you are drinking tons of water to help hydrate yourself! Lack of water can cause so many things including headaches and fatigue..

3. Stay the course: Try to stay as disciplined as you can with working out. I know its tough, especially when you don't feel good, but honestly getting moving is the BEST medicine. Sometimes it was like pulling teeth getting myself downstairs in my gym, or on a run, or having the discipline to workout at the fitness gym I go to, but I ALWAYS felt better after. You better bet I was taking longer rest breaks, lifting a lot less/running a lot slower, but I WAS THERE. Moving. Sweating. Endorphins. All the good stuff. And if you can't get yourself to do the "hard things", just walk. I walked soooo much this first trimester.

4. Listen to your body: Nobody knows your body like you. I know myself and when I really need a "rest day" and when I'm just being lazy! If you need the rest, take it! But listen to you heart- it will tell you what you really "need." Take that nap or rest day if your body is asking for it! Being honest with yourself is so important to living a healthy and active lifestyle whether you are pregnant or not.

I was actually about 9 weeks pregnant in these photos!

Another time around the sun: Pregnancy #2

April 16, 2016

Little nuggets first scan...Hello world!

Well here we go again! Sometimes I still can’t believe that we went through with having another after that first year with Max…I am sure some of you can relate. But somehow you forget ..well not forget…but seem to block out the child labor, 9 months of pregnancy, sleep deprivation, leaking boobs, fussy moments. And all of those really tough moments are outweighed by the smiles, giggles, hugs, kisses and first steps your baby takes. I know it sounds so cliché, but it is so true that they are so worth it! ha.

My first pregnancy was really tough because at that point in my life it wasn’t exactly what I wanted or planned for. But I think I never really would have been “ready”. I loved my life as a pro athlete, I loved having the freedom and flexibility to do what I wanted, when I wanted, to travel, and to spend what I pleased on myself or anyone else for that matter.

And while I do miss certain parts of that life, I sit here and wonder to myself what I did with my time. Life is so much more meaningful as a parent and I think that that purpose does not necessarily take away from your work, social life and other passions, but makes you whole.

What really hit me the hardest was how I had dedicated my life, especially the last 12 years, to fulfilling my dream of becoming a pro soccer player. To see my successful season end in a injury was tough, but to find out I was pregnant just 8 weeks after that was devastating to my passion and what I had lived for up until that point.

I had planned on playing for another year and I think deep down inside I knew once I saw the line on the stick that it was the end of my playing career. I was 32, not young for a pro athlete. My responsibilities outside of what I did as an athlete I knew would probably make it virtually impossible for me to get back to the level I was at and competing day in day out.

I was a player that needed an off season of 2 training sessions per day (2-4 hours/day) of preparation to compete. I am so blessed to have played with some of the best players in the world and really cherish those moments. I think at the time you are so caught up in the moment, in performing at the top level, living your whole life based around training, under pressure, that sometimes you can’t even really enjoy it.

Max has no doubt come into our lives and changed it for the better. We are so blessed to have our healthy 22 month old and another on the way. Being a mom is definitely a big challenge, but its also the most rewarding, amazing thing you can do in life. So here's to our future family of four!

Me, on Max's due date (June 9, 2014) after my last pregnancy run!!

How did you find out you were pregnant?

Well..I was actually in New York the last weekend of January. I was originally supposed to fly back home on Friday night, but Philly had a huge snowstorm the week before causing my college roommates baby shower to be postponed. So I jumped at the chance to take the train from NYC to Philly and head to surprise Kacy at her sprinkle! I ended up totally surprising her (it was super hard to keep it a secret ..ha) and spent the night with her. Sunday morning I woke up and started to feel sick after breakfast. I had already taken one test and it had said negative but it was a few days before my period was due. Friday morning I had also felt sick but put that down to the stress of that days meetings in the city. When I started to to feel sick on Sunday, my period was officially 2 days late..and I thought. Ok. This is it. I could not believe it..Max was a “surprise” and this time it happened after one cycle. Honestly, I wasn’t super excited about being preggo over the summer but I kept hearing about people having difficulty getting pregnant which is why we started trying right away.

When did you officially find out?

I took a test that Monday morning and it said pregnant!

How far along were you?

I think it was 5 weeks

How did family/friends react?
I think some were surprised..some weren’t because I had said that we were going to have another. The best reactions were from the receptionists and nurses at my OB..ha! Let's just say they were pretty surprised after seeing me throughout Max's pregnancy.

First pregnancy symptom:

To be honest with you I did feel nauseous twice in that weekend that I found out I was pregnant but literally have not had any sickness since. So I would really say the fatigue. That was new for me. I had sleep insomnia basically my whole first trimester with Max so this all encompassing fatigue was crazy!

What is your due date:

October 9, 2016

Any names:

A few for girls..boys I am stumped!

For all you mama's to be to, check out some of these articles I've found:
